Fixperts
Fixperts - A door handle accessory to aid a user with arthritis.
*Shortlisted for Fixperts awards 2019
This project was designed in line with the Fixperts design competition. This is to find a user with a need and then design a solution for said need.
The project was done in a team of 4 and we partnered with our user Kay who is an elderly lady with arthritis.
Our process consisted of paying multiple visits to our fixpartner so that we could have in depth conversation’s with her to create the best solution.
With each visit we would bring an iteration of the design so she could provide very beneficial feedback for us to act on.
The final product that we created for Kay was a large door handle accessory that consisted of a smooth pvc pipe with rounded wooden caps.
Our goal was to keep this accessory as aesthetically pleasing as possible as through our research we discovered that home accessories for the elderly rarely have nice aesthetics.
In our final testing visit our Fixpartner Kay was more than happy with the finished product and said:
“That’s great isn’t it? It’s so much easier now, no pain in the hand.”
